2017’s female scene stealers

I am giving credit where credit is due to the below wonderful actresses who have stood out for their performances on television this year:

1. It’s a four-way tie for these Riverdale Queens

Tv can have more than one leading lady on tv has depth and whose personality is not defined by their love interest, queue in Riverdale. It’s 2017 people, female empowerment needs to be alive and well and the media plays a major role in keeping the flame alive.

Josie’s passionate persona and unapologetic confidence, Cheryl’s intimidating demeanour which is balanced by an overwhelming want to be vulnerable, Veronica’s selflessness in wanting the best for all of her friends and reinventing herself from her previous mean girl days, and Betty’s humility and underrated kindness all shine because of the actresses that portray these characters.

2. Even the most unlikeable characters can become what we love about show, take Sam Delmonico from Friends for College…

Anna Parisse plays Samantha Delmonico

Carrying on a 20 year affair with your college hookup who is now married to one of your college friends, while you are also married and have kids certainly doesn’t represent someone who knows what taking the moral high ground means.

However, life is complicated and TV characters aren’t meant to be simple, if not we would be bored!

Anna brings out a compassionate and relatable side to a rather cold, arrogant and selfish character.

3. Reese Whiterspoon as Madeline Mackenzie in Big Little Lies  proves neurotic and nosy characters are the heroes we sometimes need when we fear confrontation

Unapologetically standing up for not only her loved ones, but complete strangers who are bullied into a corner by some judgy mummies, Madeline will fiercely defend those who fear to speak for themselves.

Manipulative, resentful, revengeful and deceitful at the best of times- you can’t help but love a character who you would probably hate upon meeting in real life.
