25 Reasons You Need to be Watching Riverdale (Light Spoilers ahead!)

1. It is a teen drama (but that doesn’t mean you have to be a teenager to enjoy it, at least I’m saying so as someone reaching their mid-20s- eek!) that revolves around the lives of teenagers and their parents in the eery town of Riverdale- the show’s first season plot premise revolves around the murder of one of the teenagers and the whodunnit

The facial expressions say it all

2. The characters are based on the original Archie comics…

From left to right: Veronica, Archie and Betty

3. But unlike the comics, Betty and Veronica have plenty of love for each other, and Riverdale has managed to turn these comic enemies-for-life into genuine best friends-for-life

Riverdale is embracing female friendship and is putting an end to the ‘her vs. her’ narrative the media loves to glorify. Find out how here: https://anunfilteredreality.com/2017/08/23/women-can-be-friends-is-television-finally-starting-to-foster-unity-between-women-instead-of-pitting-them-against-each-other/

4. Cole Sprouse (known mainly for his role on the Suite Life of Zac and Cody on Disney) is once again gracing our TV screens as not only one Riverdale’s main characters, but it’s narrator!

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.23.31.png
And we love him for it

5. Josie and the Pussycat’s are Riverdale’s hottest musical trio (and eventually quadruple threat):

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.28.24.png
Their cover of ‘I Feel Love’ will give you all the chills

6. There’s a new Queen Bee in town, and it’s no longer Blair Waldorf…say hello to Cheryl Blossom

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.31.05.png
You will love to hate Cheryl- but you will mostly end up loving her

7. You will get some serious fashion envy and new style inspiration

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.34.59.png
That dress defines my style preference

8. The dance-off scene between Veronica, the reformed mean girl, and Riverdale’s current mean girl is lit

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.38.22.png
They both hold their own

9. Riverdale’s first season may revolve around the murder of a certain character, but there’s plenty of love to go around…

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.43.35.png Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.44.24.png

10.And while Betty and Veronica empower each other in Riverdale, the love triangle between them and Archie has not been ignored in the series

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.47.32.png
One of America’s most long running love triangles right here

11. In fact, Archie isn’t always all about Betty or Veronica…Riverdale begins with Archie having illicit romance with his music teacher

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.51.00.png
Mrs. Grundy and Archie are getting to know each other a little too well…

12. Betty may be Riverdale’s ‘girl next door’ and resident good girl, but don’t be fooled by her signature high ponytail and pink lipstick

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.54.38.png
Betty has a dark side

13. And while there’s plenty of drama going on with the teens of Riverdale, don’t forget about the parents because they bring just as much suspense

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 20.57.23.png
What a good looking crew

14. And yes, you saw right, top right corner is no other than Luke Perry- most known for playing Beverly Hill’s rebel without a cause heartthrob, Dylan McKay…

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.02.13.png
90’s hottest bad boy

14. However, Perry hasn’t ben typecast in Riverdale, in fact he plays Archie’s hardworking and responsible dad, Fred Andrews, who’s always prepared to give Archie the lecture he needs to get back on track

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.09.25.png
Fred Andrews doesn’t mess about

15. And while Andrews may be a bit too traditional at times, he’s definitely the most responsible parent. Take Veronica’s dad, Hiram Lodge, who is currently in prison for embezzlement…

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.12.51.png
We’ve yet to meet Papa Lodge but he’s slated to make an appearance in Riverdale’s second season

16. Not that Veronica’s mom, Hermione Lodge, is any better- she definitely has her own definition of the law and is very concerned with keeping her prestigious family image

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.18.01.png
Hermione knows how to manipulate people to get her way

17. And let’s not forget about Betty’s parents, Alice and Hal Cooper, who are Riverdale’s most controlling duo that have no problem lying when it comes to getting their way

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.22.24.png
Not such a happy family after all: Hal and Alice locked up Betty’s sister, Polly, at a nun’s reformative institute to hide the fact that she was pregnant from everyone in Riverdale, including Betty (there is much more to this shady plot line that you will discover as you watch)

18. And while FP Jones, Jughead’s father, has unconditional love for him and would try his best to protect him- his self-destructive ways means Jughead doesn’t have a stable home

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.25.56.png
FP Jones is an alcoholic and part of Riverdale’s Southside Serpents- who tend to get up to acts that piss off police officials

19. Let’s not forget about Cheryl’s parents, who make the rest of the parents look like saints in comparison (I’ll say no more as I promised light spoilers)

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.30.50.png
Papa Blossom has a closet full of ginger wigs- need I say more?

20. While this is a drama, Riverdale still knows how to keep it light

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.34.03.png
Jughead adds the perfect amount of sarcastic humour the show needs so it doesn’t take itself too seriously

21. Behind-the-scenes, the cast are all great friends, which is why their chemistry on screen continuously flourishes

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.36.56.png
Cheryl and Betty live together in real life

22. The cinematography deserves an award of it’s own

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.39.24.png
A picture can say a thousand words

23. Riverdale’s been renewed for a second season, airing October 11th, and has been picked up for a 22 episode count versus season one’s 13…

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.42.17.png
It’s a good sign when your episode count is nearly doubled going into your second season

24. That being said, a 13 episode first season means you get answers sooner rather than later (the murder whodunnit is put to bed at the end of season one, but a new mystery awaits us in season 2)

Screen Shot 2017-08-26 at 21.45.11.png
Riverdale may need to start a new murder board for the second season

25. Finally, it has been a while since we’ve been gifted with a highly addictive drama, and Riverdale is here to fill the big teenage nostalgia in your heart

The days of having shows on primetime tv such as Gossip Girl/90210/One Tree Hill are back
